Gentle fitness in a dreamy winter wonderland
All of the five
winter sport areas in the
holiday region of Merano and its surroundings offer their guests
cross-country skiing trails:
Val d’Ultimo: cross-country skiing trails leading through a landscape of forests, fields and meadows – with a breathtaking panoramic view of the whole valley. With its 7.5 and 15.5 miles (12 & 25 km) trails and a gentle 300m altitude difference, we also recommend that you take a look at the picturesque villages of
Santa Geltrude,
San Nicolò e
Santa Valburga.
Pfelders/Val Passiria: The cross-country slope called
Innerhütt is a 3.1 mile trail and is perfect for beginners as well as for the more experienced. You have the option between two distances: There is an easy going 1.8 mile (3km) slope and also a moderate difficult slope of 3.1 miles (5km). A special tip is the night skiing under floodlights that takes place twice a week.
The romantic trail from
Pfelders to the
valley of Lazinser Tal takes you through a narrow valley between majestic mountains and silver-green spruce trees. Here you have the option between three distances: An easy going trail of 4.3 miles (7km) and two moderately difficult slopes of 3.4 miles and 7.4 miles (5.5km & 12km). Because of its moderate altitude change this slope is perfect for beginners and children.
Other cross-country skiing trails can be found in the area of
Walten (1.8 miles or 3km) and on the
high mountain pass of Monte Giovo (3.7 miles or 6km).
Val Senales: On the
glacier of Senales/Schnals there are two
high Alpine cross-country slopes at your disposal. This is a place where numerous
national teams come to train regularly. The glacier’s cross-country trails of Hochjoch 1 and Hochjoch 2 are situated at an altitude of 9.186 feet (2.800m) to 10.006 feet (3.050m), and range between 3.1 miles to 6.2 miles (5km to 10km) in length.
The cross-country winter slope of
Lazaun is situated at an altitude of 8.038 feet (2.450m) and ranges over 1.8 miles (3km). Its low difficulty level and the magnificient mountain panorama view make the trail a great destination for beginners and nature lovers.
The 3.1 mile (5 km)
cross-country trail of Unser Frau is situated at an altitude of 4.291 feet (1.500m) and leads through picturesque fields and the traditional wood farms of this valley.
The
ski resort of Merano 2000: At the
lower station of Falzeben – at an altitude of 5.249 feet (1.600m) just above the village of
Hafling – there is a cross-country trail of 3.1 miles (5km). Due to its low difficulty level this slope is perfect for beginners and children.
A second 4.3 mile (7km) cross-country trail that leads through a spectacular high plateau, starts in the neighbouring area of
Vöran.
San Vigilio: This mighty 5.951 feet (1814m) high plateau is just above the village of
Lana. It is here you’ll find two cross-country trails offering a spectacular mountain panorama view.
All cross-country trails are appropriate for both
classic and
skating techniques.
