A fresh breeze is blowing through Merano and its environs, since the whole city benefits from a new urban focus on cultural events and activities. And so too do the surrounding valleys: from the Icemusic Festival held on the Schnalstal Glacier – where famous musicians such as Giovanni Solima give concerts on instruments made of ice – to the renowned LanaLive jazz weeks, or the Renaissance evenings held in the Tyrol castle; from theatre festivals, with open-air and summer stages offering outstanding plays by great writers from all over the world to internationally renowned events like the Merano Music Festival. International stars such as Zubin Mehta, Sakari Oramo and Sir John Eliot Gardiner have conducted orchestral works at the festival, which this year will focus on symphonic and chamber music. In addition, one of the biggest exhibitions of contemporary art, Manifesta7, will also take place this year in South Tyrol.
