Fascinating Ice Music and Ice Architecture
On the glacier in the high
alpine valley of Schnals/Val Senales, visitors will have the unique opportunity to see musical instruments
carved and shaped from ice and listen to the special music they produce at 3,200 meters above sea-level.
The first ice cathedral
A prestigious event for which not only will the musical instruments be made of ice but also the venue itself. An awesome, thrilling location in the fascinating world of the Val Senales glacier was transformed into an unexpected architectural experience. The design features a
central domed chamber standing 18 mt. with multiple antichambers. A fantastically original setting with a stage, rows of seats and bar all carved from ice.
The Artists
After many years of outstanding collaboration with
Tim Linhart, this year the hosts have managed again to bring a genuine ice-music pioneer to the Ice Cathedral of the Val Senales, the
Norwegian artist Terje Isungset, who reaches the highest levels of ice artistry in producing his unique instruments from frozen glacial water. Together with his compatriot, the singer
Lena Nymark, a new experience in sound will be created in unique spatial surroundings.
This winter, another highlight will be the construction of an
ice harp by the American
Bill Cowitz.
Sidsel Walstad, a respected Norwegian harpist and originally a member of the "Norwegian Opera Orchestra," will be playing crystal clear melodies on it during the 10-day festival.
The iceMusicFestival 2010 will be held from the
26th of February to the 7th of March. It will feature so-called Music of the Spheres and be set against the powerful, intense back-drop of the Schnals Valley Glacier with its natural, harmonic architecture.
Entrance - free-of-charge.
