26th edition from 06.-14. Juni 2008
The well known International Jazz Festival „
Südtirol Jazz Festival Alto Adige“ takes places for the 26th year. The traditional and at the same time modern music of the performing artists is as diverse as the stages on which the concerts are held. Open air settings provide spectacular backdrops such as mountain pastures, old farmhouses, medieval lanes and streets. The repertoire of the festival has something for everyone. Visitors to the more traditional concerts can enjoy the historical theatre hall, sporty music fans can hike up to 2.500 m above sea level to the special high alpine concert. The
opening of the International Jazz Festival in 2008 takes place on the spectacular
castle of Sigmundskron.
The participating concerts in Merano this year are dedicated to women, and it is fitting that at the same time an International Women’s Congress will take place.
On June 7th, the
Elizabeth Kontomanou quartett performs in the tennis club Merano. The daughter of a Greek mother and an African father from Paris transforms her multicultural background into music.
The French singer
Anne Ducors gives a guest performance on Sunday, the 8th of June at 8:30 p.m. on the open-air city promenade „Kurpromenade“, together with her quartett and the American saxophonist
Ada Rovatti as special guest.
On thursday the 12th of June the guest performance of „
Helga-Ada & Friends“ takes place in the Prince’s Castel of Merano. Which means that the International Women’s Congress is accompanied by a varied musical programme.
