From the typewriter to the computer
In the
Peter Mitterhofer Typewriter Museum in Partschins you will discover that the computer, with which we are so fimilar these days, would not have been possible without the typewriter. The
prototype was developed here in Partschins by Peter Mitterhofer. Since 1998 the Museum has gathered a wide ranging and formidable collection dedicated to him.
The visitor is first brought into contact with the
culture of writing in general, and afterwards to the various kinds of typewriters. Next to the first examples from the year 1874 there is Mitterhofer's version, called after him, as well as many other models including the mysterious cipher machines from the World Wars, foreign-language typographs, rarities like the world-famous "
Malling Hansen", the most expensive typewriter in the world, standing next to many other unusual models. Typographs for the blind, stenography-machines and phonographs complete the ample permanent exhibition, that is thematically arranged throughout the 4 floors of the museum.
