Walking in Merano and Environs

In the footsteps of Sissi
A stroll is perhaps one of the best ways to explore and take in the cultural diversity of historical locations around Merano. See Alpine and Mediterranean architecture side-by-side with alleys full of activity beside quiet squares.

In Merano a signposted walkway leads visitors in the footsteps of Empress Sissi, from the city centre to her summer residence, the Castle of Trauttmansdorff, today a botanical garden open to the public. A walk through the city centre is also popular: the Tappeiner, located along the Passirio is interesting for its botanical aspects.

Merano and Environs are rich in scenic paths and trails. Another excursion that we recommend, is along the picturesque trails located along the old irrigation channels.
