Snowshoe Hiking in Merano and Environs

Snowshoe hikers will find a vast network of trails and adventure-filled routes in the holiday region of Merano and Environs: from easy exploration hikes through the smaller side valleys up to a diverse range of circuit hikes up on the high plains above the tree line, with magnificent views of the snowy mountains.

A hike up to see the Stoanernen Mandln is definitely worthwhile, as is a formidable summit hike up to an elevation of 3,700 metres. The Meran 2000 ski and hiking area on the high plateau under Ivinga (Ifinger) Mountain and the pedestrian-only Vigilio Mountain, with its spectacular panoramic view, are ideal starting points. You can reach either area quickly and easily via cable car.

Three valleys—Val d'Ultimo (Ultental), Val Senales (Schnalstal) and Val Passiria (Passeiertal)—extend into the Tessa (Texel) Group nature reserve and the Stelvio (Stilfser) Pass. These pristine valleys offer countless options and are good starting points for brilliant snowshoe hiking.
