MMM - a fascinating encounter between man and mountain

Extreme mountain climber Reinhold Messner has achieved what nobody thought possible. He has managed to establish five working museums in South Tyrol, all of which take a different approach to three themes: mountains, the mountain regions of the world, and the lifestyles of the mountain peoples. It was at his own residence, Juval Castle, that Messner established his first Mountain Museum.

Sigmundskron Castle
A central part of the Messner Mountain Museum, MMM for short, is the Sigmundskron castle near Bolzano.
In the summer of 2006, after reconstruction work, a house was built, that because of its location is in keeping with the desire of the founder of the museum: to show the magic of the mountains, and indeed the visitor is enchanted from the very first moment by the majestic landscape.
After the reconstruction of the museum building, a modern structure of steel and glass into environment harmoniously shows the connection between nature, mountain and mankind. The museum expresses this special relationship in two distinct ways. The focus of the permanent exhibition is the History of Mountaineering, as well as the picture of the mountains in Art.
