The Touriseum: the interactive museum at Trauttmansdorff Castle
One of the most successful new museums in Merano and Envrions is an interactive museum for tourism located inside Trauttmansdorff Castle above Merano (Meran): the Touriseum. The Touriseum is wonderful, especially in combination with a stroll through the award-winning botanical Gardens of Trauttmansdorff Castle or a concert on a balmy night in summer, when the Garden Nights world music series is on.
The museum
The central component is the permanent exhibiton of lively scenes, displayed in 20 scenes, which invite you to experience an entertaining journey through 200 years of Alpine tourism history. In a delightful way, it combines humour with insight and entertainment with history.
You will find specal exhibits, the permanent collection, information in the tourism interviews in the reading room and something to make you smile in the „Jokes“ Turret. In the first floor of the castle building you will find a pleasant room with a large balcony, where you can relax and read. The reading room was at one time the living room of Austrian Emperor Franz Josef, and particularly of Empress Elisabeth when they used Trauttmansdorff Castle as their summer residence.
Current exhibition
The Touriseum opens its doors again on the first of April, showcasing the special exhibition "Sie wünschen? Desidera?" at the Trauttmansdorf Castle. Following the direction of past years in showing issues of quotidian history, the new show is dedicated to the history and role of waiters and waitresses, as representatives of a special craft and mediator.
