Places of interest in Merano and Environs

The holiday region of Merano and Environs is home to some of the most beautiful cultural monuments and places of interest in the Alps. The oldest frescoes in German-speaking Europe adorn the little Church of St. Proculus in Naturno (Naturns).

Some of the most impressive monuments, though, are created not by the hand of man but are natural landmarks such as the oldest larch trees in Europe, the ancient larches of the Ulten Valley. Other landmarks, such as the Knottnkino “natural cinema” above Avalengo (Hafling) and Verano (Vöran), fuse art and nature in harmonious unity.
