Schnalshuberhof: Tavern of the Year

In autumn of every year, the South Tyrol Farmers’ Federation awards a prize to the Farmer’s Tavern of the Year. Any tavern that receives the honour of being listed in the Bäuerlicher Feinschmecker gourmet brochure is eligible. Evaluation criteria include the overall ambience, including interior design and décor, in addition to the cuisine and the quality of service.

Schnalshuberhof’s recipe for success
This year, the award went to Schnalshuberhof, which is owned by the Pinggera family, in Plars di Sopra (Oberplars). Schnalshuberhof’s simple yet unique cuisine completely wowed the jury. The organic farm’s menu offers exceptional traditional and rustic dishes made almost exclusively with products straight from the farm. Schnalshuberhof is renowned for its own speck, a variety of different dumplings, and its homemade Schupfnudeln rolled noodles, to name a few. Rare wines and autochthonous varieties distinguish Schnalshuberhofs’s selection of wines.

The Pinggera family also attaches great importance to the meticulous design and preservation of their historical farm, which was first mentioned in the historical record in 1318. Schnalshuberhof is thus the consummate combination of historical walls and panelling with a convivial atmosphere, authentic hospitality, and good food direct from the farm.
